John Scalzi

Author Guest of Honor

Author of The Ghost Brigades, The Last Colony and Zoe's Tale

John Scalzi;

Award winning writer John Scalzi was born in Fairfield, California and grew up in the eastern San Gabriel Valley calling Claremont his hometown. After attending Webb School of California and University of Chicago, John's first job after college was as a movie critic for the Fresno Bee newspaper. In the late 90's John's life was booming in many directions including the start of a wonderful life together with Kristine. He left Fresno in 1996 to work as a writer for AOL Online until his departure to become a freelance writer in 1998. An early adopter of Blogs, John started his "Whatever" sort of daily blog in 1998. John became a father with the birth of his daughter Athena continuing the ongoing theme of his recent life.

Since 2000 John has authored 5 non-fiction books and published his first fiction piece in 2005 following that tradition with 4 others. He was nominated for the 2006 Hugo Award for Best Novel, Old Man's War and winning the John W. Campbell Award for Best New Writer that same year. Another Hugo Award nomination for Best Fan Writer was handed down in 2007. More recently he was a nominated writer for both Best Novel (for The Last Colony) and Best Fan Writer, which he thought was pretty neat.

Please refer to John's Bio on his web site or his wikipedia page for more information.
