Presidential Ponderings
by Kathie Thompson
Hello,
Wow, what a wonderful time we had with Dr. Rob at the March meeting.
Personally I learned a lot, most of it things I would never have give
thought to. Thank you Rob as you always give insight to the strangest
subject matter and it is always enjoyable.
This month Kat is organizing a pitch in and gaming night for the meeting.
Please be sure to e-mail her what you can bring. June is a busy month and
with the all the preparation for the convention there will be no special
guest or presentation.
Don't forget Con-com starts at 5pm. Jeff sent out a wonderful Q & A for
the InConJunction web site for members. Thank you Jeff for getting that
information out.
Looking forward to seeing all of you at the May 1st meeting,
Kathie Thompson,
CoJ President

Minutes of the April Meeting
by Stephen Kendall
April 3, 2010 at 7:00pm
Seventh & Eighth United Christian Church,
2916 W 30th St,
Indianapolis, Indiana 46222.
Board members in attendance:
Andy Andrews, Chairman of the Board
Kathie Thompson, President and InConJunction 32 ConChair
Lynette Cowper, Vice President
Stephen Kendall, Secretary
Emily Rodgers, Treasurer
Jeff Thompson, Sergeant-at-Arms
Kat Robertson, InConJunction 30 ConChair
Mike Cowper, InConJunction 31 ConChair
Board members not in attendance:
None
Circle of Janus members in attendance (if attendance was taken):
Not taken (rough count: 32)
Guests introduced:
None
Call the meeting to order:
Called to order at 7:06pm.
Kathie asked who reads the newsletter; more hands were raised than were
not. Kathie asked if the content of the newsletter was what people wanted.
Emily suggested adding movie information.
Reading of the last meeting's minutes:
Jeff moved that the minutes of the March meeting be accepted as
published; Dillan seconded the motion, which carried.
Communications:
Treasurer's report:
Emily passed around copies of the Treasurer's report.
InConJunction 30 Convention Report:
We are having a convention.
She has an author GOH: Keith R.A. DeCandido. He has asked for flyers
to pass out at cons that he is going to before ours, as has Ed Beard, Jr.
Please take flyers and pass them out, then email
flyers at inconjunction.org so we know where you put them.
There is a PDF of the flyer on the website; Jeff suggested taking an
example flyer so you know what order the pages should be in.
If anyone has access to a way of printing flyers (to save money),
please let Kat know.
Some people misinterpreted the website programming form to be only
for participants; Jeff tweaked the wording to make it clearer that ideas
can be submitted too. Please submit your ideas there.
Let Kat know about your advertising ideas; the advertising budget
may go up.
The first play rehearsal has been set, April 10 at 1pm at Emily's
house. The play still needs actors; smaller parts may be available where
you may not need to attend all rehearsals. Please contact Crystal if you
are interested.
John needs an assistant at Ops.
Melissa may need an assistant for Dealer's Room.
InConJunction 31 Convention Report:
Still planning a convention.
Not much to report.
Last month Mike asked for people who were interested in being on his
ConCom to email him. Some people raised hands at the meeting that they
were interested, but nobody emailed. Please email him!
InConJunction 32 Convention Report:
Still having a convention.
Kathie has contacted Bruce Campbell and Terry Brooks.
She contacted Discovery Channel and another network for
sponsorships, possibly starting at Mike's convention and carrying over to
hers.
Member Services:
Birthday cards did go out. Kathie asked for a monthly spreadsheet;
she will send a template.
Member Activities:
Forthcoming meeting events:
Rob is speaking tonight.
May is gaming and a pitch-in organized by Kat.
June is getting ready for the convention.
No regular meeting in July.
Non-meeting meetings:
Judy Eudaly has penciled in May 22 as a non-meeting meeting at
her house, pending the graduation festivities of a relative. Judy said 6pm
would be the likely start time.
Board report:
None.
Other communications:
We received ads from Sam's Club, which are being passed along to the
ConSuite chair.
Old Business:
Audit Committee:
We need people to volunteer for the audit committee.
Kent Raquet volunteered.
The meeting consists of looking at numbers, checks, receipts, and
that the bank statements reconcile.
If you are interested, please let Kathie know.
Chris Canary volunteered.
Proposed Bylaws Change:
Kathie read the proposed election order Bylaws amendment:
6G. Each office will be nominated for and voted on one at a time
in the following order: Convention Chairman, Chairman of the Board (if
necessary), President, Vice-President, Secretary, Treasurer,
Sergeant-at-Arms. This will allow an unsuccessful candidate to run for a
different position.
Kathie explained the proposed amendment. Kathie moved that it be
accepted and Kat seconded.
New Meeting Space:
We need to look for new meeting space.
Right now we are spending about $15 per month.
There have been conflicts and issues with meeting here. The current
church wants us to reschedule at short notice.
We would like somewhere centrally located and on a bus line.
We are scheduled at the current church for the rest of the year, but
we would like to try out new locations before the end of the year.
Kathie and Jeff have looked at Wendy and John's church; that
church's board hasn't met yet so there is no word on whether that church
will accept us.
Jeff asked that members submit new locations; Kathie asked that the
information be sent to her.
We want a place that allows food, although we have previously met in
places that don't allow food.
Bylaws Caucus:
Kathie proposed August 28, 2010 for the Bylaws Caucus, the fourth
Saturday in August and the weekend before Labor Day weekend.
Andy thought that was a wonderful date to have it.
Kathie will be checking into meeting locations and will provide
pizzas.
The start time will be 1pm. Kathie will announce in May where the
caucus will actually be.
New Business:
August Meeting Date Change:
Lynette asked if the August meeting has been moved (it conflicts
with Gen Con).
Kathie proposed moving the meeting to the second Saturday in August;
she will check on the availability of the current church.
Kathie suggested that this would be a good time to try out another
location.
Bank Accounts:
Emily discussed the bank accounts and fees and how to arrange the
accounts to avoid them.
Speaker:
The meeting was suspended at 7:45pm for a five-minute break, then Rob
Pyatt's Weird Science presentation. Announcements followed Rob's
presentation.
The meeting resumed at 9:11pm.
Announcements:
Vice-President: Feed the kitty!
Mike Suess: Alice in Wonderland by Tim Burton is excellent.
Dillan Dick: Injured his shoulder in September of last year. No
surgery. Could be released from restrictions in six weeks.
Anjala Dick: Clash of the Titans was okay.
Lynette Cowper: Asked for help cleaning up afterwards.
Chaos occurred at 9:13pm.
Respectfully submitted,
Stephen Kendall, Secretary
