Summary of the August Club Meeting
by Lynette Cowper
The club met on August 8 at Valley Mills Christian Church. All officers
were present. There were about 26 people all told, including a guest from
Greencastle.
The June meeting minutes were accepted as published. We got a Treasurer's
Report, then convention reports. Jeff reported our attendance was about
the same as last year. We're looking at changing the hotel layout because
we were too spread out, which made the con look empty. He reminded
everyone of the After-the-Con Bash and that we had a few tee shirts left
on sale. [Gone now, unless you need a small.] For 2016, Laura reported
contract drafts are in the hands of various GoHs. She's working on
featured guests (Arlan Andrews is returning as one), shifting the budget
around the put more into promotions, and condensing the hotel space. She
reminded everyone the first ConCom will be before the October meeting. Joe
reported for 2017 he is getting his music guest solidified, but is still
working on the Author GoH.
Andy reported about the Board discussions on the con, Pagan Pride, and
paying for the storage. Member Services is still trying to get a list of
birthdays. The Audit Committee is still not yet meeting, but has been
emailing. The Archivist had some stuff for the Treasurer. The
Quartermaster reported the storage facility is being remodeled. And
Outreach was looking for volunteers for Pagan Pride.
In Old Business, we reminded people about membership cards and election
procedures, then talked about club fundraising. We made a bit from the
June silent auction. The Challenger Center is no more.
In New Business, we discussed Club Activities. For August Non-Meetings
there was a Dessert Theater with the Cowpers involved, and Artemis at
Games to Die for. September was the After-the-Con Bash. There were no
suggestions for Non-meeting for September. We discussed doing pumpkin
carving for October, but it was sort of iffy.
In Announcements that are still relevant, Kevin Harris and Karen got
married. John and Wendy have a blog "plays with Wendy and John" we should
check out. Joe Greene is going to be part of an indie film. Laura T
started a second job on weekends, so she won't be at meetings as much.
Leigh had a short story that got an honorable mention in a contest.
And that was it for August!

Summary of the September Board Meeting
by Lynette Cowper
The Board met on September 19 at Valley Mills Christian Church. All
officers were present except InConJunction 2015 ConChair Jeff Thompson.
Kat Robertson also attended.
The July Board minutes were approved as published. We got a Treasurer's
Report, then convention reports. For 2017, Joe has gotten some ideas from
the Board he's going to pursue. For 2016, Laura reported three of her GoHs
have sent in signed contracts. Rockne O'Bannon is not sure if he is
available and probably won't know until well into the new year. She is
working on Featured Guests. There will be a flyer ready by Pagan Pride.
She is going to update the description of the Flyer position to include
creation of flyers. We sent a certificate for two badges to the Cancer
Sucks fundraiser. She's still looking to fill some ConCom positions. Jeff
wasn't present to report on the con just past, but Beckie mentioned
working on being better at Code Adam responses and enforcing rules about
kids being accompanied by an adult.
In Old Business, the Audit Committee is communicating, but hasn't met yet.
Lynette still needed some volunteers for Pagan Pride. We also discussed
building up a stash of books for giving away at events. Stephen has
accomplished some of the Treasurer things he brought up a couple months
ago and is working on others. We talked After-the-Con Bash.
In New Business, Kat Robertson brought a proposal that InConJunction or
the CoJ sponsor the game room at Starbase Indy. After some discussion, it
was decided InConJunction would sponsor it. If there are CoJ/InCon people
attending who would like to put in a few hours in the game room, see Kat.
We then briefly discussed various things with the December anniversary
party, the New Year's Eve party, and the Procrastinators' Halloween
Party, and with Elections.
And that was it for the September Board meeting!

The Latest Awards News
Hugo Awards 2015
The Hugo Awards this year had a controversy surrounding its nominations. A
couple groups, called the Sad Puppies and the Rabid Puppies, who felt
science fiction needed to return to its roots, successfully gamed the
nominations process to get a selected slate into the awards, completely
sweeping some categories. This was followed by widespread outrage, some
nominees declining the nomination to avoid association with the groups,
and calls for changes to the nominations process. A record number of
people voted in the awards. Noteworthy this year are the number of
categories where no award got more votes than any of the nominated
works. These were categories where the Sad/Rabid Puppies' nominees were
the only choices in the category. Also notable this year, the winner of
Best Novel is a translated work.

Announcements from our Members
We need books! CoJ's fantastic success with giving away paperback books as
an outreach tool means we need a steady stream of them. If you have a
stash of used SF, fantasy, horror, or other speculative fiction books (or
comic books!) collecting dust, the Outreach Committee is trying to build
up a stash for giving away at various events. Please, bring them to the
meeting and give them to either Lynette Cowper or Laura Edwards.
Another very good option is the Indy Library Store, part of the
Indianapolis-Marion County Public Library System. Sales are held
periodically through the year.
NOVEMBER
Friday, November 13, 5:30 7:30 pm. Friends Night
Saturday, November 14, 10 am. 4 pm.
Thursday, November 19, 12 7 pm.
Friday, November 20, 12 7 pm. ½ Price Day
Saturday, November 21, 10 am. 4 pm. $7 Bag Day
All book sales are held at:
Library Services Center
2450 N. Meridian St.
Indianapolis, IN 46208
Paperbacks are never more than 50 cents, and on the last day of the sale
($7 Bag Day), you can get an entire paper grocery bag full of them for
that price. They're very helpful, and discussions on possible club
reimbursements may be forthcoming.

Capricon 36, Feb. 11-14, 2016, Westin North Shore, Wheeling, Ill.: a
quantity discount is in place for any group that signs up 10 or more
individuals. The rate is $50 until Oct. 31. Capricon visited InConJunction
35, with a hall table and even a room party, and it would be nice to
reciprocate. Anyone who is already going, or who is interested in going,
please contact Laura Edwards (conchair at inconjunction dot org) as soon
as possible.

Rolling to Starbase Indy for gaming initiative: more details will be
finalized in time for next month's Circular, but InCon/CoJ, in association
with the dissolving INWAP Games, will be sponsoring the Gaming Room at
Starbase Indy Thanksgiving weekend. Shifts by anyone attending would be
appreciated; there will be a game library and a few scheduled games. There
may be some Gaming/ConSuite badges available more details on that later.
Talk to Laura Edwards or Kat Robertson if interested.
