Summary of the February Club Meeting
by Lynette Cowper
The club met on February 6 at Valley Mills Christian Church. All officers
were present except Secretary Lynette Cowper (Mike Cowper took the
minutes). There were about 29 people present. We had no new guests.
The January meeting minutes were approved as amended [though I'm not sure
what correction to the November minutes are being referenced LRFC]. We
got a brief Treasurer's Report, then convention reports. For 2016, Laura
reported Make-a-wish is our charity, Rockne O'Bannon is confirmed as Media
GoH, she is meeting with a potential sponsor, the Sci-fi photo guys will
not be here due this year, and she is looking for help staffing InCon
table at Capricon, Concoction, Who's Yer Con, and Indy Pop Con. For 2017,
Joe is still working, but had no specific news. For 2018, Beckie has an
Author GoH, J M Lee, and a verbal yes for Toastmaster.
Andy reported on the January Board. We figured out our meeting schedule
(mostly 11:00 on the 3rd Saturdays), we have some issues with getting the
new Board on the mailing lists, as Jeff still needs to turn over CoJ
accounts to Joe. In committees, our Archivist is looking into some online
publishing rights questions; the Audit Committee is working on starting
afresh with the new Treasurer; Kat was looking for someone to take over
Member Services. Beckie volunteered, Mel approved, and they were going to
work out transfer of materials before next meeting. Outreach was absent.
Quartermaster had nothing new. And Webmaster is open to suggestions on how
to improve the websites.
In Old Business, we discussed having another silent auction as a club
fundraisers; Jeremy Murray has the Member Cards; and everyone agreed the
instant run-off election procedure worked well and should be included in
the SOP for Election Officer.
In New Business, we looked at Board and Presidential appointments. The
only change made is Beckie taking over Member Services from Kat. This year
is a Bylaws Caucus year, where we review the Bylaws for any needed
changes. The Bylaws are available online. Someone is also going to print
up a few copies for folks who prefer the dead tree version.
In Club Activities, we had a bunch of non-meetings every Saturday in
February between a pitch-in at the Eudaly/Dick household, a group going to
watch Deadpool, and the opening bout of the Naptown Roller Girls. The
March post-meeting activity is going to be pysanky (multicolored dyed eggs
using wax). If you want to participate, bring an egg (preferably already
blown out, but if you're uncomfortable doing that, you can get help at the
meeting). The rest of the materials will be provided. Keep in mind this
involves dye and melting wax dress accordingly! The only suggestion for
a March non-meeting was the Circle City Aerodrome Ball on Mar 12. Kat
asked if for the April post-meeting we could have Rob's Weird Science. Mel
was going to look into that.
We discussed reincorporation and what impact, if any, that has on Bylaws,
insurance, and liability.
In Announcements that are still relevant, Mel invited all to the
steampunk ball and the Starbase Indy to monthly volunteer meetings. Jeremy
M. is collecting dues for those who didn't get to pay them yet and passing
out Member Cards. Kat has a job as director of nursing for Heal-at-home.
Anjala found a steampunk designs coloring book at Michael's as well as
other interesting ones and has started a group on Facebook. John mentioned
that Sweeney Todd Demon Horror Of Fleet Street and Avenue Q coming up at
Footlights, and an unauthorized what happens when Charlie Brown grows up
at Buck Creek. Randy said Hamilton is playing in Chicago, there's a new
hangar at the USAF museum with some interesting planes, and Expanse has
ended, which he felt was the best SF show ever. Becky reminded everyone
that Fun Police is looking for donations after Valentine's day (pixie
sticks, plain chocolate), and said The Magicians on Sys is amazing. Gary
mentioned the death of David G Hartwell (author), and that the new
Godzilla movie has the tallest Godzilla ever with a mix of live and cgi.
Leigh's novelette Moon Mirror is available through Amazon. And Randy
mentioned that Edgar Mitchell (astronaut) has also passed away recently.
And that was it for February!
