Presidential Ponderings
by Kathie Thompson
Hello,
It was so nice to see everyone at the October meeting. Don't forget that
the November meeting is a pitch-in for the "Procrastinator's Halloween
Party". We will continue to take nominations for all open offices during
the business portion of the meeting. Please remember that when voting for
any of these offices that they are not a popularity contest. Be sure to
take into consideration if you think the person is capable of doing the
job, even if you have had a disagreement with them or do not always like
their point of view. An officer's job is to gather the information from
the club and do what the club thinks is best.
The presentation by Laura Hohman was fabulous and everyone seemed to enjoy
it. Laura, thank you so much for the interesting, fun, and exciting
presentation.
It has been nice to see some talk about the bylaws. We are currently
working on putting through some grammatically corrections but in no way
want to change the meaning of them at this time. However, please think
about what you want out of the club for the next bylaw's caucus as I
believe some items need to be addressed.
On an additional note if you need to change how you want to receive the
e-mail from the list (e.g. daily or not at all is an option) you can go to
http://lists.inconjunction.org/cgi-bin/mailman/options/circleofjanusmembers
and enter your e-mail address and password and log in. The webmaster does
a wonderful job on the website giving him the title of webmaster, he is
not the "fix what I am too lazy to do myself" guy. Please do not send
e-mails asking him to fix things that you haven't yet looked into for
yourself. I'll ask him to send more detailed instructions on how to access
the list server configuration pages to the members or have it included in
the next newsletter.
Thank you,
Kathie Thompson

A Few Cool Things to Do in Indy
By Lynette Cowper
The Giver: An adaptation of the popular book teens can't seem to put down.
This thought-provoking production drops you into the utopian world of
twelve-year old Jonas as he is chosen to be the Receiver of Memories and
hold the community's long-forgotten memories of joy and pain. The truth is
told. The harrowing journey begins. Fridays and Saturdays, through Nov 21,
Indiana Repertory Theatre.
Star Wars: In Concert: Narrated live by Anthony Daniels, the production
features a full symphony orchestra and choir, accompanied by specially
edited footage from the films displayed on a three-story-tall,
high-definition LED super-screen-- one of the largest ever put on tour.
The live music and film elements are synchronized in order to create a
full multimedia, one-of-kind experience. Accompanying the concert is an
exclusive exhibit of Star Wars costumes, props, artifacts, production
artwork and specially created behind-the-scenes videos from the Lucasfilm
Archives. Tickets: $35-$65. December 12, Conseco Fieldhouse.
The Marvelous Land of Oz: Join us in The Lilly Theater as we bring you the
sequel to "The Wizard of Oz." Set two years after the events of the first
book, The Marvelous Land of Oz features familiar characters, such as the
Scarecrow, the Tin Woodsman and the Good Witch Glinda, along with a host
of new characters-- the Woggle Bug, Jack Pumpkinhead, his creator, Tip,
and Princess Ozma. When the Scarecrow, now ruler of the Emerald City, is
driven out by General Jinjur and her all-girl army, his friends-- the Tin
Woodsman, Tip and Jack Pumpkinhead-- try to restore peace. A wonderful,
continuing adventure of the characters you fell in love with in "The
Wizard of Oz." November 27 through January 3, The Children's Museum.
The Wizard of Oz: Civic Theatre's signature holiday extravaganza returns
more spectacular than ever, bringing MGM's movie to life on stage. Back by
popular demand, there will be an Audience Sing-A-Long on Jan. 1 at 7 p.m.
Tickets: $25-$34. December 11 through January 3, Indianapolis Civic
Theatre.
Star Wars: The Clone Wars Exhibition: The exhibition features artwork,
costumes and other pieces used in the concept and production for Star
Wars: The Clone Wars. There'll be a life size Jedi fighter in the Welcome
Center. The exhibit itself will be in the lower level by the planetarium.
There are life-size flats of Anakin, Yoda, Ahsoka and other characters
next to which visitors can pose for pictures. Through Jan 31, 2010,
Children's Museum.

--
"Within a few years a simple and inexpensive device, readily carried
about, will enable one to receive on land or sea the principal news, to
hear a speech, a lecture, a song or play of a musical instrument, conveyed
from any other region of the globe. The invention will also meet the
crying need for cheap transmission to great distances, more especially
over the oceans. The small working capacity of the cables and the
excessive cost of messages are now fatal impediments in the dissemination
of intelligence which can only be removed by transmission without wires."
Nikola Tesla, 1905
