Summary of the October Club Meeting
 by Lynette Cowper

The club met on October 11th at VMCC. All officers were there except Drew
Happli. There were no guests. Beckie's computer problems meant we had no
August minutes, so we tabled approval of them until we had some to
approve. Stephen reported on our finances, then we moved to convention
reports. Jeff is still looking for some ConCom people for 2015, is working
on a Science GoH and looking at ways to promote the con. For 2016, Laura
is drawing up contracts for the GoHs, looking for a second charity, and
interested in inviting a lecturer, Katherine Hales, that she heard talk
about What Makes Us Human. Andy gave a brief Board report. Laura said
Pagan Pride had gone well. She's beginning to push the New Year's Eve
party (see details below) and is looking for someone to take over the
Outreach job (or an actual committee) so she can concentrate on
ConChairing. The November meeting will be the Procrastinators' Halloween
party with Wax Chaotic performing. Wear costumes and bring food! (More on
that below, too). We talked about cards for people who have lost pets.

In Old Business we briefly talked about the After-the-Con Bash, Hotel
Contracts, Member Cards, and prizes for the Procrastinators' Halloween
Party and the moved to New Business. The proposed Bylaws Changes were
discussed (see the proposal below). Then we opened officer nominations.
Brian Davidson is our Election Officer. The nominees are listed below.
After that, Mike mentioned that Catherine Johnson Moyer of the Kinsey
Institute is putting on a show for science fiction erotic artwork and is
looking for our input. Much discussion ensued. Mike will contact her.
Ricky made extra storage keys. Because of a schedule conflict at VMCC, the
December Anniversary Party will be on the second Saturday, December 13th
at 6pm. Jeff said the ConCom for November will be at 5pm.

Still relevant announcements: Delta 5 is launching Constellation in
mid-December. Lynette and Mike are in A Christmas Carol, The Musical, the
first weekend of December. Kat is looking for size 20 / XL / 1X clothes.
Stephen reminded us to pay dues in November, not in January. Kim is
looking for recommendations for science-based iPad apps for School on
Wheels, tutoring group that teaches homeless children. Monrovia Library
next year has science fiction themed exhibits. And Bob does custom
woodwork, which would make great Christmas presents. And that was it for
October!

Procrastinator's Halloween Party

Don't forget to get your Halloween stuff for the party! This will be a
pitch-in. Bring food. Dress up in your favorite costume. Prizes for best
costumes! Katt and Sean McConnell from Wax Chaotic will be coming to
perform a short set or two of mysterious Halloween music!

Don't Forget!
Nominations for Club Office continue this month. Anyone who has been a
member for two full years immediately prior to the election (in this
election, that would mean all of 2013 and 2014) and will be 18 or older
by the January meeting is eligible to run for any office except
Chairman of the Board, which has an additional requirement that the
nominee has previously held club office. A person may run for and hold
more than one office, except for Chairman of the Board, who cannot hold
another office while Chairman. Any current member may nominate someone
(including him/herself) for office, or second a nomination. In order to
appear on the ballot, a person must fulfill the membership and age
requirements, be nominated and seconded, and accept the nomination
either at a meeting or via email or other communication with the
Election Officer. (Nope, you can't railroad someone into office.)

New Nerd Year's Eve
What: The Circle of Janus presents New Nerd Year's Eve (the traditional
NYE party, under new auspices)
When: Wednesday, Dec. 31, 6 pm. to Thursday, Jan. 1
Where: Clarion Inn & Suites Northwest, 7001 Corporate Dr.,
Indianapolis, IN 46278
Who: Everyone! CoJ members, guests, other members of the Indy fandom
community, etc. Kids welcome, too.
Why: To ring in the new year with food, games and friends.
How: The CoJ will pay for the meat; everything else is pitch-in. Unlike
previous years, there will be no cost for only attending the party and
not getting a room, but the kitty will be out.
Should you want to get a room - and everyone should, for safety and
keeping the fun going for hours and hours - prices are $62 for a
standard room, $66 for a mini-suite, $89 for one of two hot-tub suites
and $135 for the Presidential Suite. You will need to call the hotel
for these rates, as they will not be on the website; the number is
(317) 298-3700. Check-in at 4 pm., checkout at noon. The pool will stay
open until 2 am.
Bring: Food/drinks, games and your smiling selves. Dress code is
whatever you want that has you still wearing clothes. A pitch-in list
will be drawn up at a later date.

Recommendations of the Bylaws Caucus
 by Beckie Margedant

Change Treasurer paragraph IV F, first sentence, to
“The duties of the Club Treasurer shall be to maintain the funds of the
Club and to report on them at each regular meeting. The Club Treasurer
shall also ensure the collection of all debts, paying of all bills, the
keeping of all the accounts of the Club, and the preparation and filing
of all taxes and incorporation papers before the end of their term.”

Add at end of all Officer duties (Paragraph IV, subparas B, C, D, E, F, G,
and H) [This varies a bit with the phrasing of the specific paragraph.]:
“... and orient the incoming [specific officer position] for his/her
responsibilities, and turn over all materials, records, and accounts in
a timely manner.”

Add to Chairman of the Board duties, paragraph IV, Subpara B, after
“report to the Membership about Board business at meetings of the Club;”
and before the newly proposed “... and orient the incoming...”:
“... perform banking functions if the Treasurer is unavailable;”

Terra Cotta Warriors: The Emperor’s Painted Army: The Shaanxi provincial
government assisted in creating this one-of-a-kind, Indianapolis-only,
hands-on experience. Artifacts from the Terra Cotta Warrior site have only
visited a handful of cities in the United States. Features more than 100
artifacts, including real Terra Cotta Warriors, some never before seen by
the public.
Through November 2, The Children's Museum.

*Target Free Family Night: The first Thursday of each month, the
Children's Museum opens free of charge.
   November 6, December 4, 4:00pm to 8:00pm, The Children's Museum.

VonnegutFest: A variety of programs celebrating Kurt Vonnegut's life and
contributions. $75.
November 7 to 8, Kurt Vonnegut Memorial Library.

LEGO KidsFest Indiana: The LEGO KidsFest national tour stops at the
Indiana Convention Center for the very first time, bringing all of the
creative hands-on, minds-on fun of LEGO building and experiences together
in this three acre activity- and entertainment-packed family event. LEGO
KidsFest is for children of all ages and builders of all skills and
interests. $22, adults; $20, children.
November 7 to 9, Indiana Convention Center & Lucas Oil Stadium.

An Irish Christmas: An Irish Christmas offers something for the whole
family -- joy, hope, laughter, friendship, and celebration of life through
storytelling, music, song and dance through generations over brooms, on
half doors, around butter churns, into the world of mythology and out
again. Pipes, flutes, fiddles, button accordion and bodhrans bring Irish
flair to the orchestra alongside a superb team of Irish traditional
musicians, dancers from the Kerry Dance Troupe, the Kerry Records voice
squad, and Irish actor Sheelagh Cullen. Traveling through time, guests
will experience Christmas in Ireland and witness the great tradition of
butter making, chase the wren on St. Stephen’s day, draw the half door of
spectacular dance, and enjoy music making and great storytelling in an
unforgettable Irish night. $18.75-$75.
   November 9, Old National Centre.
