Pickle Press Comics

Nik Havert and Paul Schultz;

Pickle Press is a small publishing company that specializes in comic books. Pickle Press creates and publishes several types of comic books, mostly in black and white, and may move into short story collections sometime in the next few years.

Pickle Press pledges to print fresh ideas and not just rehashed versions of someone else's work. There are far too many "cookie cutter" comics these days, and Pickle Press strives to keep its books outside the norm.

Nik Havert

Nik has been writing some kind of fiction since he was about twelve years old. He started out with a story about talking animals at a zoo and has since gone on to self-publish comic books about women in love with superheroes, vampires running rampant in Chicago, vice-loving medieval mercenaries, and an EPA agent who is somehow still alive after being shot in the head and dumped into a lake.

Nik’s passion for writing comes from everyday life. Most of his ideas for stories and scripts (he has also ventured into screenwriting) come from real-life events, many from his own life, and bits of dialogue he has heard over the years. The idea for his latest graphic novel, Act of Contrition, came from an encounter with a woman who suffered from mild paranoia and dementia.

Nik writes because, as he likes to say, “I have to get all these ideas out of my head so I can have room for more.” He has seven journals and a bulging folder full of story ideas, and he gets more every week. His future plans include publishing a horror comic book anthology entitled Mysterious Mansion, which will be a big salute to Bronze Age horror comics, self-publishing a novel of some of his short stories, and self-publishing a wild spaghetti western comic book entitled Salem, AZ.

Paul Schultz

Born and raised in Northwest Indiana, Paul E. Schultz has been reading comics since before he could even read and by the age of twelve had decided that drawing them was all he wanted to do. A scant twenty-five years later, Paul met up with Nik Havert of Pickle Press and his lifelong dream is slowly and steadily becoming a reality. Moslty self taught, Paul is a penciler, inker and painter influenced by many of the masters of the comics genre, none of whom he claims to hold a candle to. Paul is married with three children and currently resides in La Porte, Indiana, a town with no art supply store but a discount cigarette shop on almost every corner.
