Programming


Various interesting panels, sessions and events beginning Friday afternoon will be scheduled for your enlightenment and enjoyment. Subjects range from the delightfully silly to the seriously sublime.

If you would like to be part of our panels, sessions and events, or just have programming suggestions, go to the new Event Planning Dashboard and log in (or create a new account). From there you can volunteer as a Programming Participant, request a table in the Creators' Alley*, make programming suggestions and much more.

*Please note that tables and half-tables in the Creators' Alley area of the Expo Hall are available on a first-come, first-served basis and are reserved specifically for authors, artists, etc. that are interested in selling, promoting, and autographing their own works and would like to have additional opportunities to meet face-to-face with their fans and other attendees of InConJunction. Authors, artists, etc. that are planning on selling any other additional merchandise must purchase vendor space in the InConJunction Expo Hall. Artists that would like to display their works and make them available for purchase (in particular artists that are not planning on attending InConJunction or who may require additional hanging/display space) are encouraged to contact the Art Show organizer to reserve space in the InConJunction Art Show.

Tony Stark vs. Thunderbolt Ross: A Debate   (1 Hour)
After a series of dangerous incidents involving Mutants and Scientifically Enhanced Individuals, the United Nations proposed the Sokovia Accords. While this attempt at controlling a potentially undesirable segment of Earth's population has been signed by the President and the Secretary of State, only Congress has the authority to commit the U.S. to an international treaty. Now Anthony Stark and Gen. Thaddeus Ross have agreed to appear before a Select Congressional Committee to provide their advice on whether Congress should adopt the Sokovia Accords, or declare them to be contrary to the federal nature of U.S. society.

How many streaming services can you name? How many can you afford to subscribe to? Now consider that almost all of them offer some original content that falls into the science fiction, fantasy or horror genres, as well as their subgenres. Is there so much content now that it is becoming too hard for us all to discuss shows? What qualifies as a "hit" when not everyone has access to the same set of entertainment media? Our panelists will share their opinions about the state of streaming services and how it may impact fandom going forward.

From the autumn of 1966 through the spring of 1969, Gene Roddenberry and his associates faced a constantly changing landscape as they attempted to maintain the quality and the ratings of the original incarnation of Star Trek. Come join us for a discussion of how the original show was gradually nibbled to death by production studio accountants and broadcast network executives who never quite understood the needs and the potential of an odd science fiction program that eventually evolved into a major media franchise almost two decades later.

A panel of four or five individuals is seated at a table which contains a collection of adult-oriented novels, The Collected Works of Shakespeare and a few other books. One by one, each panel member does a reading of a sentence or short paragraph from one of the books they have chosen for that turn. And the mismatched nature of where one person stops reading from their book and the following person begins from a different book often creates hilarious results.

Your definition and the government's may differ. A few things you will learn: Do I have a hobby or a business? Choosing a legal structure. What if someone has the same name as you? What taxes do you have to pay? What counts as income and how do you report it? What can I deduct to save money? Can being a business protect me? Come to the presentation to find out more. Let's get about the business of being a business.

Ray Bradbury in Hollywood   (1 Hour - Presentation)
Ray Bradbury is known as a genre fiction writer, but did you know that he also had an impressive career in Hollywood as a screenwriter? From the Academy Award-winning film MOBY DICK (directed by the legendary John Huston) and IT CAME FROM OUTTER SPACE (one of the first good 3D films), to film adaptations of his own works (The Halloween Tree, The Illustrated Man, Fahrenheit 451 and Something Wicked This Way Comes), Bradbury left an enduring legacy in the American film tradition.
