Peter Adkison

Gaming Guest of Honor

Peter Adkison;

Peter Adkison has been an avid gamer, and an all around good egg, all his life. In 1978 Peter discovered Dungeons & Dragons, which launched his interest in role-playing games and started him on the road to ruin. His favorite games are Dungeons & Dragons and Magic: The Gathering (of course).

On his way to becoming a gaming magnate, Peter stopped off at Walla Walla College, where he earned a BS in Computer Science. After graduation he worked for Boeing for six years as a systems analyst but he didn't lose his interest in gaming.

About halfway through his Boeing stint, Peter and some friends founded Wizards of the Coast and began to develop their own games. After Magic: The Gathering was released in 1993, WotC had enough money to hire Peter full-time and move it's offices out of his basement.

Peter continued on as CEO of WotC until Jan. 2001. Since his "retirement", Peter has returned to the gaming industry by purchasing the Gen Con Game Fair from his old company. Many gaming fans believe that of all the owners of Gen Con over its 36 year history, Peter is the best one yet.

He has returned the "Best Four Days of Gaming" to what Gen Con originally stood for: Good Company, Good Friends, and a Good Time. For Peter, this is also a great opportunity for him to get "back in the game" in a small company environment, while serving an industry he truly loves.

In the summer of 2000, there were rumors that WotC was thinking of moving Gen Con to Indianapolis. City gamers quickly championed the move, which would provide Gen Con with a larger convention center and more nearby hotel rooms. When Peter took over the Gen Con reins, he continued the plans that had already been set into motion. The 2003 Gen Con will be held in downtown Indianapolis in August.

When not gaming Peter enjoys rock climbing, dancing, snowboarding, travel, and spending time with friends and family. He is married to Melissa Reis Adkison. Peter and Melissa live in Seattle and have no children.
