Anita La Selva's statuesque dark looks have made her a popular choice with many casting agents and directors. Anita can be currently seen as alien leader "Zo'or"
in "Gene Roddenberry's Earth: Final Conflict" (VR/SPACE/SYN) and is the host and narrator of a new information series on Discovery Channel, "Future
Tense." Keep your eyes on this much sought-after actress as her star rises in the Canadian film, television and theatre scene.
Anita was lucky enough to grow up in an artistic environment. Both her parents were theatrical costume cutters at the world renown Stratford Theatre Festival
as well as at the CBC and Livent. As a teenager, Anita was an A-student and participated in many extracurricular activities such as; Drama Club, French Club
and was a member of the basketball team. During her summers, she worked at the Strafford Theatre box office and spent most of her time watching plays. It was
then that she became enamoured with the stage and decided to pursue a career in theatre. At first, her parents were not supportive of her decision. They were
worried that their daughter would suffer too much rejection and be out of work but as they saw her career blossom, they quickly changed their minds. Now they
are fully supportive of all her artistic endeavours.
She has worked extensively in television, film and theatre with credits across Ontario including the Lighthouse, Muskoka and Kawartha Festivals, the Thousand
Islands Playhouse ("Private Lives," Blithe Spirit"), Huron Country Playhouse, Theatre Terra Nova ("The Art of War") and the Gryphon Theatre.
She has performed with numerous Toronto Alternative Companies such as The Kensington Carnival ("Blood Wedding"), Whetstone Productions ("Bedtime
Stories"), Nightwood Theatre Groundswell Festival ("Bum Wrap"), the Modern Times Stage Company ("The Balcony") and Equity Showcase Theatre ("Macbeth").
Many might also recognize Anita from her television appearances on "The Alex Kelly Story," "Mistrial," "Under The Piano," "TekWar,"
"Comics!" for CBC, "Spencer: Pale Kings and Princes" for ABC and "Kung Fu: The Legend Continues." Anita was a member of the Esmeralda Enrique Spanish
Dance company for three seasons and was also a member of the prestigious multi-disciplinary collective URGE from 1995-98, where she co-created and
performed in the highly acclaimed "She Promised She'd Bake A Pie" at the DuMaurier Theatre and at the High Performance Rodeo in Calgary.
Anita was co-founder and co-producer of Sycrorax Productions from 1992-95. During this period she co-produced and performed in "Ficky Stingers," "Low
Level Panic" (Summerworks Festivals), "Her Aching Heart" (Fringe of Toronto Festival) and "Forfeits," which she directed (Montreal Fringe
Festival). In 1996 she co-wrote "Girls Love Be Harlots," a play about Canadian writer Elizabeth Smart, for Angelwood Theatre and the Fringe of Toronto
Festival. Recently, she created a company with Toronto actor Sarah Neville, to workshop and produce Canadian playwright Scott Sharplin's brilliant new
psychological drama "Touch" in the spring of 2001.
Although Anita doesn't have a lot of spare time, she enjoys spending it with her husband, Richard, and her cat, Clarence when she does have a moment between
her many jobs. She also enjoys yoga and cooking great meals to de-stress from her hectic schedule.
Anita looks forward to her bright future and her philosophy to guide her there "is to always remind herself to stay open to what the Universe has to offer
and to not get fixated on one thing, as to let thousands of other good and different opportunities pass her by." With that type of faith, good Karma is
sure to come her way.
